Guneriussen, Rune

Artist, *1977 in Kongsberg (Norway)

Rune Guneriussen was born in 1977 in Kongsberg, Norway.

He studied at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design (UK) then moved back to Norway where he lives and works.

Rune Guneriussen has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions from the United States to Japan, and at important art fairs, such as Paris Photo.

His works can be found in many private and public collections, such as Christian Dior and the Musees de Bayeux in France, as well as St. Olays Hospital and the Centre of Knowledge in Norway.

Since 2005 the artist has explored the relationship between installation and pho¬tography. He takes full advantage of the picturesque and untouched nature of his home country Norway, in which he places man-made objects to create ethereal photographs.

Therefore, with his projects he assembles site-specific sculptures and installations creating the most enchanting of worlds, photographs them and takes them apart afterwards leaving no trace behind – as a nod to a more delicate approach. “This process involves the object, story, space and most important the time it is made within. It is an approach to the balance between nature and human culture, and all the sublevels of our own existence”, the artist states.

Hence, these most ordinary every-day items such as electric lamps, books, chairs, are seemingly the only indication of human presence.

His photographic works invite the viewer to contemplate the results of the interaction between man and nature, as a metaphoric way to reflect our place in the passage of time.

As an artist, Rune Guneriussen strongly believes that art itself should be questioning and bewildering. He does not want to dictate a way to understand his art, but rather indicate a path to immerse oneself in a narrative dimension.
