About the artist

Artistic Development: Jörg Kraus already organized exhibitions of Rottweiler artists during his time in Rottweil (1981-83) and participated in exhibitions himself. In parallel to his cultural studies, he joined an artistic training at the the institute for drawing in Tübingen (1983-86). A next phase of intense art studies followed his graduation in 1990. Trainings with Peter Valentiner between 1990 and 1991 and participation in summer academies at the Berliner Universität der Künste in 1991 and 1992 characterize this period. Both the further development of his own artistic activity (training periods / exhibitions) and the freelance work in art consulting (especially Wilhelm Hack Museum Ludwigshafen) took place between 1990 and 1997. With a solo exhibition at the Maison Heinrich Heine in Paris in 2016 Jörg Kraus intensified again his artistic activity and since then has regularly participated in juried exhibitions and fairs. In the spring of 2019, he realized the exhibition "Windows and Crossroads" in the Heiliggeistkirche Heidelberg. His works were originally more painting-oriented, but more recently photography based on painting has become more and more important as currently video work is added. Windows and other motifs of transition keep his thinking busy in the outcome differently expressed depending on the medium. Jörg Kraus works as an artist in Heidelberg and is a member of Kunst Stuttgart International e.V..

Jörg Kraus moves as a cross-border commuter in different worlds. His curriculum vitae shows his own artistic activity and the promotion of art and culture. He dealt with cultural science topics between chaos and order. And he set up the transfer and exchange processes between science and society for the University of Heidelberg. As an artist, he draws from these different experiences and works in the border area between painting and photography. Where he is interested in people, the documentary aspect of photography recedes behind symbolic references and blurred contours. “Reflection pictures” (Denkbilder) arise here, weightless and moving in the blur. Where he continues to develop his abstract painting in a photographic way, the pictures of the “Windows” series are created. Room concepts and video installations are added when it comes to designing larger rooms.
